(Term of lighting design)
A method to calculate the horizontal illuminance on a workplane within a space, as well as its uniformity. Only the direct illumination from the luminaires to the workplane is taken into account. The illuminance at each point is determined by applying the inverse square law and the cosine law to the intensity data for each luminaire under the given angle.
For a quick avererage values over an area, the zonal cavity method may also be helpful.
